5 Tips to survive the holiday (silly) season!
HOW TO SURVIVE THE SILLY SEASON
It's here, and there's only a week to go until (one of) the big day(s)! Even if you've had parties, events, and all sorts of things happening , here are some more tips to help you get through the next couple of weeks!
1. HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE
I know. I always go on about this one, but honestly, i just think it is THE most important thing for you to remember! Being dehydrated can make you feel tired, sluggish and hungry for food your body doesn't need.
So to stop yourself binge eating on all the tempting food on offer, make sure the first thing you do when you wake up is to drink at least a pint of water at room temperature. And then, drink another. Try coconut water. I love it for its sweet flavour but also it is so full of electrolytes which are amazing for hydration and potassium – a winner for jet lag, which late nights and early mornings can feel like!
Also, and i don't want to get gross on you here, but dehydration will definitely give you bad breath. No one wants to be THAT person. So drink up!
2. BREATHE
It sounds silly, but it can be so easy to get caught up in the frenetic vibes of the party season. You end up saying yes to everything and this can lead to burn out or, like me, double/triple/quadruple booking yourself by mistake and getting in a real muddle. This equals stress. So B R E A T H E.
Take a few moments throughout your day to breathe deeply, consciously and all the way down into your belly. This will help to relax your shoulders, which might be up by your ears by now, calm your brain, and you'll be able to process requests, invitations and general information better. This will enable you to make good decisions about what you eat and what you can and can’t fit in/do.
3. MAKE YOU A PRIORITY
What we mean here is, look after yourself! Make sure you're nourishing your body with whatever you put in. Enjoy finding ways to add extra energy boosters/supplements into your food.
I love adding super fruit powders into my smoothies and yoghurts and adding lots of yummy goodness into my granola. And we all know how good a smoothie can be for a mega quick burst of nutrients. Add some matcha powder into it for a boost of energy and antioxidants. WIN.
A good drink for first thing in the morning is hot water with lemon and ginger. The lemon will help balance the acidity in your body and the ginger is great for soothing sore tummies. You can add Apple Cider Vinegar in here for an extra kick if you fancy it! It will do the same as the lemon.
Finally, help your body process everything by eating slowly and being mindful of every mouthful. Chew your food!
4. TAKE REST
So when you do actually manage to get some sleep, make sure its a nice restful one by turning off your electronic devices at least an hour before you sleep. That includes phones, iPads, and the TV. The blue light from the screens can interfere with your brain's natural process of producing melatonin and making it harder for you to sleep.
If you're having trouble sleeping, try dropping a couple of drops of lavender oil on your pillow or try the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray from Space N. K. and make yourself a cup of calming camomile tea.
You could also try making yourself a cup of raw cacao and turmeric hot chocolate. This is a bit of a treat that is filled with antioxidants, helps reduce bloating, and is a natural anti inflammatory. Just warm up your choice of milk, add grated turmeric, 2-3 teaspoons of cacao, and enjoy!
And make sure you have water by your bed as you sleep just in case you wake up needing a drink.
5. MOVE YOUR BODY
No doubt you will have been dancing the night away… and thats great, but if you've overindulged, don't just lie in bed feeling dreadful, get up and move your body. As hard as it might seem, the best thing you can do, is get your body moving. Personally, I get up and go to a good strong ashtanga or rocket yoga class! This works up a good sweat and is a surefire hangover killer!!
GOOD LUCK!!!
